Yeah no shit S2 was made to be less abrasive. Did you really an interview to realize that, didn't the toned down grossout elements and mean spirited cinism, the characters having more genuine relationships with each other, the wholesome moments of character development, all the ghosts being redeemed instead of blasted, tip you off? It's not intrinsically worse or better, just different. And frankly the more a series keep going the more there will be a physiological need of growth of the characters as people get more attached to them, they can't keep being bastards fucking each other over forever, it becomes boring and unsatisfying.
