I always just default my backstory to whatever my character's class is. Does anyone one have any tips on how to make good characters without weirding out the whole table?
The only time I ever really tried making a character with complex motivations and backstory I got inspired (a little too much) by pic related. GM told me to never do anything like that again so I ditched the whole idea I had planned. He later asked why my character had nothing going on and that he couldn't do anything with what little I was giving him. Even though I never brought it up again, everyone else at the table wouldn't let it go. I had to excuse myself for a moment one time because I couldn't stop myself from crying from how much they were making fun of me.
