The excellent 1975 movie "Dog Day Afternoon" is a telling of the real-life story of a guy who robs a bank to pay for his tranny's sex change surgery only for the robbery to go sideways and everyone, including his tranny 'mistress' turn on him. Even the tranny is eventually like 'Yeah, I just need psychiatric help not surgery'.

Art has nothing on the unpredictability of real life and real people.
