Reminder that the American government literally made it illegal for public companies to not only constantly chase profit, but ALWAYS make more profit than they did in the previous period. This ensures these companies almost never, ever take risks and instead chase the lowest common denominator to please shareholders, even if it's at the expense of the consumer. This is why private companies like Valve are almost always far more consumer friendly than their public contemporaries like Microsoft, EA, etc. Any policy that doesn't fit the "line must go up no matter the cost" mold will result in the company getting into legal trouble and workers getting replaced en mass.
