Years of Republicans conditioning their voting base to believe they're perpetually persecuted, combined with a rudimentary understanding of the religion they claim to passionately hold faith in, which instills in them a sense that their cruel or malicious actions are somehow not actually cruel or malicious, as it's impossible for a "believer" to truly be "wrong."
What results is a bunch of low IQ hicks with victim complexes and itchy trigger fingers, waiting for a reason to "righteously" dish out pain.
