Q: Why are the clothes of NPCs in side quests always so simple?

Takayanagi: Thank you for your question about coordination.
Character outfits have always been tailored to the setting. Perhaps that's why NPC costumes are so plain. We also don't let non-essential characters wear the high-quality gear worn by the Warrior of Light. That's all hard-earned gear, and if it were worn by an ordinary citizen, everyone would be surprised...! Whenever the Warrior of Light visits a new town, I'd tearfully ask Mr. Hayashi, who's sitting next to me, "Please give me some clothes that match this place!"

Thanks to Mr. Hayashi, we were able to create a variety of characters with costumes that matched the scenes!

Q: Since 6.x, more and more NPC costumes (Hephaistos and Hilda's hairstyle, Azeyma's outfit, Nanamo's wow emote, etc.) have been implemented as player-usable appearances. Were some NPC costumes designed with player-usable clothing in mind from the beginning? If so, how were their designs different from those of NPC costumes that were not originally designed for player characters? Will more popular NPC costumes (such as Yozakura the Fleeting, large/small Galatea dolls, and Sphene from 7.2) be implemented as player-usable costumes in the future?

Hayashi: These are two very difficult questions to answer, and the only answer is, “I can’t say specifically what it is, but it exists!”
