It's the principle of the matter. Just like how many weren't a fan of Bosko getting redesigned in Tiny Tunes. Something that was only exacerbated over time when Amblin used the design to stealth insert their own creation, the Animaniacs, into the 30's timeline.

It's all very silly on some level but, intentional or not, re-writing history still pisses off some of the Warner bros staff to this day.
