I mean, the US has always had good writers. It's just that within the BIG 2, you didn't have the best the US had to offer, and what was good was limited to CC and editorial decisions. UK writers just took the liberties that were left to them and used them to write their own stuff. A lot of the shit that UK writers did in the 80s had already been done in the US as early as the 50s.
