Not quite a union. It’s Ontario’s HR Professional Association (HRPA). HRPA membership isn’t required to work in HR, but it’s the only way to earn bullshit certifications like CHRP or CHRL. While optional many large employers, government agencies, and unionized workplaces basically require them, making HRPA membership an unofficial requirement for senior HR jobs. They can disciple members for, eg, threatening the livelihoods of people on TikTok. Canadians love their fucking rules.
