The possessiveness of many SU fans makes sense when you realize that many of them - not all, of course - came in as lolcow consumers rather than fans of a great artist (even though it is that great art for which they stayed). That sense of ownership and entitlement they feel over him is because they still see him like a little monkey who dances for attention, and only accepted him insofar as he was a "based" reflection of that which they sought to ridicule. They're the ones that bandied him about as the Sonic Underground god. They made him into a clown. Ponies represent a break from the prison that is this very reputation, and that is why they seethe, and wish to prescribe that same upset onto bronies (a complete fiction). They are social sadists. They like Sonic Underground because it features that same sadism (regardless of Tamers' own feelings on the subject).
Meanwhile, MLP fans accepted him as just another fan animator (lots of those), taking him for what he was rather than what a perverse subculture made him out to be. They see him as an artist. That's why MLP fans are not hostile to Sonic Underground- most feel at least an ambient respect, or they don't know much about it or don't care (ALTHOUGH THEY SHOULD, SU IS THE BEST). This is why they're happy (or neutral) on new ventures like Dandy's and the crossover stuff in the Flawless movie. Another reason ponies incense them so much is because many episodes move away from that social sadism. They say these episodes have "no jokes" because they do not understand any form of comedy that is absent of violence. In other words, they are fucking retarded.
