It's a great intro to Gumshoe, wonderfully expanded on in stuff like Esoterrorists and NBA. I was dreaming up a lot of mini-series ideas while watching the Ju-on Origins show, which blends different points in time into a character-focused narrative. I feel like with flashbacks you could do something similar.
