Outdoors activities definitely sound like the place to meet someone to date. But again, not many are doing those kind of things related to the entire population.
Another thing you have to take in account is that more people are willing to do those kind of things are in the younger side of the spectrum, let's say < 30, if you didn't were social by then and didn't manage to find a partner, it's pretty much over.
What do you think people over 30 are doing with their time?
Most of them spend their time working and after that they are just too tired to do anything else.
Even going to bars, the second highest way people are meeting their partners, is limited to people that have a social life and friends to go out with.
Socializing is a young people activity that has an expiry date.
