Easiest way to control this is with a smart watch. Apple or Garmin are great. You're looking to stay in zone 2, teetering on zone 3 for heart rate. You can figure yours out online if you want. If you're running in zone 4, you're on a timer before you gas out. Zone 5 can be described as burning matches, you have a limited number of them, and once you run out, you're out.
