I've never understood hatred of "other options". In a capitalist society, isn't competition supposed to be a good thing because it encourages corpos to treat their userbase well to entice them to use their product, and in turn make other corporations raise their standards to keep their userbase and entice newer players or players from their competition.
It's a little different, since this is media instead of something that's solely utility based like a car or a toaster or a service, but how did people become convinced that competition within the media landscape is a bad thing?
