Gentle reminder that the US Government sneakily lied us into both wars, the first left such a bad taste in American's mouths that support for joining WW2 was single digits until Pearl Harbor was allowed to happen.
Yes, allowed, because the Pacific fleet was WW1 and interwar period ships being rapidly outclassed by Superbattleships like the Bismarck and Yamato. The expensive and hard-to-replace carriers were kept far away from the sitting duck fleet and the Japanese fleet (spotted a week in advance by the Aussies) was ignored, even when midget subs were intercepted the day before the attack.
American support for joining WW2 shot up to high 80% following the attack, so our government got the war it wanted and all it cost was 3000 men and ships that'd have been more costly to scrap. Oh and those MIC companies got juicy new shipbuilding contracts to replace the fleet, very lucrative.
Now don't get me started on the Gulf of Tonkin (FAKE AND GAY) and the USS Maine. Our government never fought a just war after the Barbary ones.
