>despite being objectively better mechanically
They can be better mechanically but that doesn't change the fact that the maps and world simply aren't as interesting as DW1 and the timescale in the original Re:Digitize was so messed up that a single screen transition was sometimes an in-game hour. The introduction of Megas also completely ruined the balance as now you wander into an area and need 5000+ HP, ATK, and DEF if you want to survive even basic mobs meaning actually having to grind the gyms is required instead of just something you do every once in a while when you visit File City..

I played Re:Digitize on the PSP for like 20 hours and it was beyond miserable. Every time something died I'd either have to spend an entire Digimon's life cycle fishing just to afford HP Floppies to go through new areas (Because I refused to use the glitch and play it how it was intended), or I'd have to spend a solid hour bouncing between Rosemon's gym, savescumming it to get the best results (and if you failed that's a 5 minute in-game timer run back), and then having to spend two in-game hours running to Angemon's gym to heal the Digimon just to repeat the process because I was getting completely stonewalled.

There's also the fact that in DW1 you can get by with literally any random abilities and Digimon just fine it'll just take longer, and disk spamming isn't as mandatory because Ultimate is as high as Digimon go. Meanwhile if I go to Re:Digitize I better have some sort of solid move to use or I'm getting knocked out of most of my attacks, and status effects are way more prevalent. Getting a fire type early on is also miserable.

Then you have Next Order forcing you to juggle two Digivolutions that don't sync after a point and that not only puts people off but makes people hate even bothering to train anything anymore and works against itself.

I myself prefer CS and HM to DW1 but that doesn't stop me from despising DW1's sequel games either for various reasons.
