Correction, Yugoslavia had a growing ethnic problem in a region now known as Kosovo and the Serbs tried to ethnically cleanse them which triggered the NATO bombing campaign. Additionally the Serbs and Croats have a multigeneration lethal hostility towards each other.

The distinction I was trying to make was Canada has large visible minorities in ALL of their cities, whereas in Yugoslavia the different groups tended to live in separate regions.
