I went on legit 10+ winstreaks with 0 upranks, then got on a 3 losestreak and deranked. Then it happened again. So ranks either have a very esoteric way of being calculated or straight up don't matter.

MM is clearly too broken, why won't valve do a rank purge every once in a while?

Yes but it shouldn't take too much effort to just ask people to recalibrate every season or so
