Johnson dropped a few not-so-subtle hints within the art and story that the whole thing was just a cathartic/masturbatory lashing out at a problem he was powerless to fix. It's been a long time since I read Holy Terror, so the only thing I can recall is that like the annual it ends with the character's actions not really solving anything. I wouldn't mind being reminded of some examples if they exist.
