You really don't understand the basics of networking do you?
Here's something that if you weren't just monitoring a bot would make you sit up and listen:
Virtually every "webpage" is a server which collects logs on every client (browser) that visits it. These logs can tell the admin of that server (the website owner or host) a lot about every client - their ip, they type of browser they're using, the OS they use some can even get hardware info...
All from just clicking a link. Archived or UNARCHIVED!
And while you're at it - ponder how a site that's users are supposedly "anonymous" can ban those users by IP?
