I have a story I just remembered.

>be 21
>looking for summer job
>barely any available
>go to bougie bread store, get interview
>manager talks for 15 minutes about himself and his love of bread
>”oh by the way, this will be a part-time role, about 15-20 hours a week, and it opens up in a month”
>needed a job yesterday but fine
>”now, I want you to go find a bread that you like, one that speaks to you, come back and try to sell me it”
>say “sure thing”
>walk out of back office, past the breads and out the door
I feel like the ages of 17-25 were all one big, elaborate humiliation ritual.
