I partially blame the awkward angle and perspective. Larry is closer to his blanket's center and there's a noticeable gap between him and the edge where the blankets meet, so there's probably a good 3-4 feet between him and Fran. Even with that, Fran's relative size makes her look much further back than she should. Also the lunchbox that held the lobster is on the opposite end of the blanket, so Larry would have been leaning even farther forward when he first grabbed it.
Would have been some pretty intense flailing to even get close to hitting Fran. Ha ha can you imagine? Fighting with Maya over food? Just rolling around and wrestling with such a small girl for such a silly thing?
