Season 2 is very flawed but Aegon II was kinography in it.
Aemond was decent too, at least the first half, I really hate how they made him betray his brother. He might have shown up late to help him, maybe, but not directly burn it. It's very stupid and contradicts how they set up Aemond in season 1 - Aegon OFFERS HIM THE THRONE and Aemond doesn't take it because he has a weird sense of duty/honor.
It's also just more compelling for a family to work together and be for each other, even if things are complicated behind the scenes. When it comes to actual battle, you fight for your family.
It just wasn't needed. it makes Aemond less interesting, not more.

I wonder if any of the writers behind the scenes felt this way and argued in favor of this and some stupid woman overruled him. Enraging.
