I swear, some people haven't fucking read Dragon Ball. Goku was always the retard strong shounen protagonist that punched or brute forced everything in his way and even when Tao Pai Pai beat him he just got plot trained in like 2 issues to catch up. And then, when he got the REALZ OMG magic water it was even worse. It was the lamest plot device ever to make him catch up to King Piccolo by drinking plot juice juxtaposed to Tien Shin Han literally killing himself to learn the Mafuba.

Dragon Ball and especially the Saiyans have always SPAT on the idea of training and working hard from day 1. The only time things seemed balanced was when Roshi was training him and Krillin, and the guys in that tournament looked like they stood a chance, but any semblance of Dragon Ball being about effort got evaporated as Toriyama's lust for the "KEK GOKU IS SO STRONG LOOK AT EVERYONE REACTING GUYS" gag grew to pornographic levels. Not that it's not lame that Goku was retconned into an alien, that's still retarded, it just meant that Saiyans were the only ones able to matter as the action cannibalized Dragon Ball's plot even further.

If you want a manga about how much training and hard work can change a person and how martial arts can have a positive effect on them and not just to make him physically stronger, you read Ashita no Joe.

This is also true, because going by Yamcha and Toriyama's comments, Tien Shin Han never surpassed Krillin because the power boost he got on Namek (75,000) was just too big that Tien could never close the gap and Krillin also never showed he got any stronger since Namek. The human characters very likely never surpassed Ginyu (120,000), let alone base Goku at the time he fought Ginyu (90,000).
