Yep, giving special formatting through special characters is what’s usually done in these cases. I thought in gamemaker it would be more straightforward than having to code it manually, that’s why I asked. After all, my point of reference is flash, one of my first development environments, and there everything was pretty accessible.
I didn’t know gamemaker allowed for so much flexibility. Interesting.
But… going back to the text topic: how do you organize dialogues and events? Does gamemaker provide a "dialogue/entity manager" to handle that kind of thing? I’m asking these things so that, thanks to knowledge, I can better appreciate the subtle craftsmanship of games developed in that engine o_0

It’s frustrating to spend days or weeks on extremely abstract internal stuff [I spent like 3 days just programming a simple options menu x_x], but honestly I see those processes as 'puzzles', and solving them is incredibly rewarding : )
