When I was in the Navy, I'd often end up getting assigned shore patrol watch as part of my duty section's watch bill. This basically amounted to walking around with sailors from the other ships on base and making sure everyone was inside by curfew. A bunch of sailors were often chosen for this duty billet since the base was fairly large, and once everyone was mustered, you'd be split up into one of several groups. Basically, if you were assigned one of the groups outside of base, it amounted to wandering around until past curfew and then huddling with everyone inside the nearby McDonald's until watch was over. If you were assigned one of the groups inside the base, it amounted to getting dinner and then meandering around the barracks lounges until watch was over.
Both were super comfy and it was always fun getting to meet people from other ships. Apparently every ship is haunted. Mine was haunted by little girls for some reason.
