Some CN fans got offended that the game let you kill Ming Dynasty heroes but left out Manchu enemies, claiming it was acknowledging Han genocide, so they started review bombing the game on steam and started photoshopping the game’s producer wearing traditional Manchu clothing to mock him (pic related). After that backlash, the devs pussied out and pushed a patch that made certain historical characters unkillable, they just faint or stop fighting, which many saw as censorship to appease critics. This also completely ruined Wuchang's main themes. Now both Chinese and international players are upset, saying the change ruins the story and tone of the game.
The game itself is actually really solid for a soulslike + tbe MC is hot, and data-miners even found hidden assets confirming a DLC was in the works. But after the backlash, the devs said they’re not planning to release any DLC anytime soon, probably out of fear of more controversy and will just focus on qol updates for future patches instead.
