>It is a massive L for Elon, but hopefully he'll get over
I think I can understand why he wanted infinite H-1Bs desu. I mean, obviously, to save money. Essentially, it's that. But still, he's in a certain situation.
Adding all of those features to Twitter he talked about, it's not easy. Anybody who tells you that it's easy is big time Dunning-Kruger. It's an old, GIANT codebase. It has to work at a huge scale. When there's an outage it literally makes the news worldwide.
You could easily put 100 random CS PhDs who look good on paper on the job for a few years and get absolutely nowhere.
It's hard to plan and organize complex work like that.
And it's hard to find people willing to dedicate themselves to the job.
I've worked on projects where it's pretty much all that you think about ALL OF THE TIME. I would get angry at random people just for existing in my way and taking away seconds of my attention. And it's not even that it was that complicated, but it still took all of your attention to make sure everything will work right.
And I wouldn't be surprised if most programmer don't want to do this anymore. I don't think that they should desu. I don't think you should be able to demand that from your workers.
But Elon, he's done this before himself I believe. I guess he figured he needed people who would do this for him. And the only way to get it is was with foreign slave labor apparently.
