Given that there is evidence that the anime(ashs at least) was meant to end at DP here's what i think was meant to happen, plus a little extra.
>gets to the league as normal (still uses reserves etc, all normal stuff)
>add or subtract "randoms" until its Ash vs Paul as the final 2 (no tobi)
>Ash wins, of course
>Ash vs Cynthia, Ash wins
>Cynthia gives the "Champions League" foreshadowing, leaving many possibilities open.
>rest of the series continues as normal until its near the end
>Instead of the dumbass fashion thing with Buneary Dawn goes back to kanto with Ash like she originally stated she wanted to
With Ash now a champion, or having beaten a league, etc. he finds himself somewhat lost on where his goals lie. he loves traveling, he loves pokemon, and he wants to keep doing the things he loves. He decides that he is going to travel with Dawn to help her reach her goal, as she helped him reach his. He decides that being a pokemon master means helping both people and Pokémon (something wholesome like that)
>they decide to start a new (like how ash starts with new mons when going to a new region). Buneary tags along.
>they head out into the distance, wherever that may be.
Epilogue
>a young man(new MC, Ashs age and heavily implied to be Ash and Dawns son) walks down a forested path on a bright sunny day.
>he exits the forest atop a hill overlooking a city(this city can either be in unvoa or any city thats unknown for the time, so anything in any future generation really)
>while he was walking, he was on the phone. We can not hear who is on the other line only him speaking to them.
>he says something like "yeah, I just arrived. Yes, I'm fine! No need to worry, ok? Yes, i know where the professor's lab is, im telling you both im fine! dont worry! ok, ok, tell the rest of the family I made it here. ok bye." implying he was speaking to both his parents(Ash and Dawn) and implying siblings (potential future rivals)
>New MC runs to the city. The End
