Pro-Kremlin political analyst Sergei Markov, a former Putin confidant, has been designated a “foreign agent” in Russia—the first openly pro-Kremlin propagandist to receive this label.

Markov had claimed Russia shot down an Azerbaijani jet, praised President Aliyev even as he supported Ukraine, and argued Russia would benefit from a nuclear strike.

After the announcement, Markov reaffirmed his loyalty to Putin and noted he is under Canadian sanctions.
