>a bear companion
Actually yeah, this could work. It'd be super durable and strong, an absolute monster in battle with a fuckton of HP, but then to balance it out it would lower your speech and charisma. Idle NPCs would walk away from you and sometimes story important NPCs would ask you why the fuck you brought a bear with you. It'd fit the tone with the game and offer something fun and unique, and it'd be cheap as fuck to add cause it just grunts and can't tell you its backstory. If you really wanted to give it a companion mission it could just be something stupid like bringing it to a bee nest so it can eat some honey.
Good God Obsidian, way to take the most boring option every time. Even if you got the perfect setting to do something fresh and weird you don't take the chance.
