Alternate proposal: we copy the idea behind the Shirane-class destroyers and build a Halifax class frigate with an enlarged flight deck and a massive hangar. Enough room to carry 3-5x F-35s. We can use offset catapults or Zero Length Launch JATO systems to make up for the reduced takeoff distance.
