Since when was that the bar? Strive wasn't developed to beat a new Street Fighter or Tekken game, the goal was just to not be a failure like Xrd was (the developer's words, not mine). And they obviously succeeded to the point where even in this year's EVO four years after release Strive is incredibly popular
It's fine to dislike what Strive is in terms of content but just think about what you're saying for a second. In 2020 postulating that a Guilty Gear game would be competitive with SF/Tekken/MK would get you absolutely laughed out of the room, Strive literally put the franchise on the map in a lot of people's heads and you're not crediting it enough for that success
