Pale Beings don't negotiate. You kneel or you die. That's just the way they are. Hornet was raised in Deepnest though so she learned different

It mostly comes from how their main kingdoms function and how the surrounding kingdoms function

>Hollownest
Obviously Hollownest isn't the best now but you can see how it used to run. There are places of leisure, the economy STILL works. Outside of Hollownest, the villages can still be themselves. Deepnest was still Deepnest even after they destroyed the Tramway. The Hive was still it's own thing. The Mantis Village is still populated. Hollownest has problems but overall, a strong new leader could've restored it

>Pharloom
Pharloom, at its best, was a hellhole. Caste and chattel slavery EVERYWHERE. Death was outlawed because dead bugs can't work. Outside of Pharloom is nothing but death. Karak no longer exists. Verdania no longer exists. The Nameless Town is a corpse. Everything Grand Mother Silk couldn't use was ground to dust. The Weavers are described as viscous by all but the Pilgrims. The Underworks... just all of it. Rosaries are both currency and sign of faith so being poor was considered a sign of a lack of faith which is not fun when you live in a theocracy.

>...Their memory...
>...Bind their shells...
>...Bind their souls...
>...Bind them all...
>...Raise them... Up...
>...To devote... Eternal...
>...One mind... One union...
>...They are ours... Bound forever...

Also Hornet makes it clear that, as a Pale Being, GMS is naturally inclined to establish dominance over whatever lands she finds herself in. But as it pertains to Lace specifically?

>...Better a child spun mad... than none...
>...Better a child spun frail... than none...
>...Better a child spun pure... than them...
>...One to wish our waking...
>...From our Silk... A child born loyal...

She wants her own children to be forever loyal. While her subjects praise her in a single hive mind of servitude. You either praise Grand Mother Silk...or die
