>“Why are you so set on this?”
“Tartarus looms over this country as a spectre.” Alvin says. “It represents the final, unknown vestiges of the Sorcerer King. The greatest mystery he left us. Why did he build it? Why did he forbid us entry? What was so important that Xenophanes, the greatest Sorcerer who ever lived, needed to lock it away, rather than use his own potent magic to deal with it? Perhaps it really is a seat of power that will allow Morfis to advance and reach new heights. Or maybe opening it actually will release a slew of ancient spirits. Or even invite our destruction. Whatever it is though, we simply must know. In my heart, I truly do not believe Xenophanes wished for it to remain closed forever. He wanted us to open it. To deal with whatever was inside when we were finally ready as a people to do so. And I believe the time is now.”
>“I think you’re looking into this too hard. What if it’s just where he sent all his dirty laundry?”
“Then I’d send it to the wash.” Alvin shrugs his shoulders, laughing at the mere thought.
>“So, you’re staying here?”
“Afraid so. Are you going to leave Tartarus closed when you win?”
>“Still thinking that one through.”
“I see. Well, here you go.” Alvin offers you the book that had been in his hands. “It’s everything I could find on Mystletainn. Read through it when you get a second. As we suspected, the only way to free Elric is to destroy the sword. However, keep in mind that doing so will release the spirit within, which you’ll have to dispose of much in the same way we did the Djinn. Expect a two-part battle. Only fight it when you’re ready, and preferably when you have plenty of help at your side.”
>“I’m becoming a magnet for these things.” You accept Alvin’s gift, tucking it away. “I’ll be sure to give it a read. Sure you don’t want to come along?”
“We’ll meet again I’m sure. Despite what I said, I still hope you win this thing. I’ll be rooting for your victory, my friend. Show them what you’ve got.”
