Religious god is obviously made up but I disagree with people who rule out the possibility of any higher being whatsoever. I agree that there's no evidence but at the same time so long as there's no answer to what caused the Big Bang or what happens beyond a black hole's event horizon or that we don't exist within a simulation, anyone saying with certainty that there isn't some higher dimensional being behind all this also has no evidence of that.

We are 3D beings that cast 2D shadows that move over the plane. We can observe our own shadows and those of others, but the shadows cannot ever 'know' the third dimension. 4D and beyond beings would be able to cast their 3D 'shadows' in our reality while we would have no way of interacting with them.
