So at what point is a person permitted to carry a weapon for self-defense, by your estimate?
At what age then? Is it dependent on training or experience? Then what training or experience is needed for you to feel it permissible for a person to carry a weapon for self-defense? Could a young person reasonably acquire this training or experience? If not, why not?
Personally, I think it's dependent upon the circumstance. The higher the likelihood of unjustified violent altercations, the more sense it makes for anyone to carry a weapon and be ready to defend themselves at any time. I wouldn't want my nine-year old walking around with a pistol in white suburbia, but you can bet your ass they'd be packing heat every time they left the porch if we were in the middle of a zombie invasion, for example.
The UK is steadily becoming less and less stable. It's more violent every decade, and that's even without accounting for the fact that violent crime is frequently unreported, both by victims and law enforcement. For this reason, it makes sense to me that more of the general population would (and should) try to carry concealed weapons with them in areas which are densely populated with a high record of violent crime... which seems to be about half of the island, at this point.
