Do they? It takes me about 5 seconds to clock these women. The problem is many men are so desperate they'll look past red flags to the fact that she has a pulse and is talking to them.

A woman that has to perform for male attention is a red flag in itself. That shows that she's not receiving the attention she feels she deserves by "merely existing", the way high-tier women can. Mid women have their own kind of desperation, but it's not loneliness, but rather being denied access to the men she feels she deserves. You can't satiate a desire for a 10 with any number of 5s and 6s unfortunately, and women are never encouraged to talk these issues through dispassionately with a therapist. They're never told that it's best to settle, because slay queen, you deserve your prince and nothing less.
