I defer to milpros but it seems that ziggers are forced to innovate while trying to capture Pokrovsk. They are not able to encircle it and don't have the armour for a full-frontal assault as was the case in Bakhmut in 2023.
Because they have depleted their soviet stockpiles the rate of refurbishment of legacy equipment remains very muted compared to previous years. So they have to get creative if they want to try to take small towns. Their infiltration tactics are definitely creative but it's borne from necessity rather than craft.
If it works it may only work after months of these infiltration, by which point Ukraine will have more than exhausted the value of Pokrovsk by destroying so many ziggers with drones as they swarm in. You have to then wonder if such a tactic is replicable in other parts of the front. I mean it's probably impossible to take a city like Sumy that's inhabited and alive like this.
