Wanting anything more than that is not productive. The complexity of a kit is generally where they become suboptimal, not because of player skill but because of inflexibility and unpredictability.
You have characters like Navia who want crystals to be generated in specific amounts in their rotation to maximize damage but because we're not robots, and the elemental infusion of enemies can be charged specific ways by default like with slimes, that's gonna get pretty inconsistent sometimes.
Internally consistent kits like Varesa are preferable because she doesn't much care what is happening to the enemy, the rotation does not change. Any deviation from a character that can do their rotation without any external influence is just introducing things to go wrong.
An on-field wants to be
>E-enter high damage mode as filler between cooldowns
>Q-cooldown that does damage
An off-field wants to be
>E-self-battery to enable burst
>Q-single burst with lingering applications and damage continuing when off-field
And support wants to be
>E-self battery with a buff to party
>Q-Heal with damage and maybe a buff
And besides, we have 4 buttons and one of them is jump. There's not a lot more complicated it can get without the game just asking you to track the precession of Venus in comparison to your current Energy Regeneration Rate.
