Why is Japanese history so fucking self-serious and boring when portrayed in games, though? Just an endless string of proper nouns, guys staring at each other for 30+ minutes before one draws their billion times folded steel blade, meandering narrative about birds chirping in the distance, so on....

I KNOW it's not that boring now, having studied it, but they're doing a terrible job of making it seem interesting, if they're trying to.

Why is this the case? It's so frustrating, it's like they're incapable of being funny so much of the time. Maybe it's just VNs, but they lean on a lot of extremely tired jokes instead of innovating or even just catching up.
