I see what you are talking about, however the simple fact is that a lot of said concepts were in the works even before release. Hell, the stuff that we had on the long backburner since before release might be even more wild. We do think about oversaturation though, do not worry. That is why we dont use as much AI paths.
Generally the majority the whackiness of some paths stems from the fact we try to make them "true to their goals/ideals" like Gunther. Do not worry, there will be way more "normal" paths that are also enjoyable.
They would probably have some more sci-fi elements added just due to TFRTL's rapid technological progress however. Well, we did say to expect some more sci-fi stuff by the end-game in some nations, so you were warned and all.

No idea honestly. Generally only expect stuff coming out to their respective teased update. Simply due to the fact we have a lot of stuff that people work on and they can be on the back burner or had to be postponed due to another tree. It is a hobby afterall and some devs have personal lives.
