Basically your only duty in life is strictly to yourself, and by being charitable or generous to others we fail in that moral duty. She even argued that the problems in society were caused by this generosity, since if everyone was either sinking or swimming on their own merit, the unsuccessful wouldn't live long enough to cause issues.
The joke is that someone admittedly selfish as that would NEVER engage in any level of philanthropy, let alone open a school for needy children.

But an honest and open existence is the least harmful I guess. It's a better situation for both sides of the camera.
