>Why was this the big reveal for both of their dreams?
It’s a lazy trauma dump Fujimoto slapped on both characters to fake depth. Denji's baggage was already unpacked in Part 1 as his core wound poverty, abuse, isolation. His dad reveal was superfluous. His real trauma was Makima's betrayal, so dredging it up again in Part 2 feels like Fujimoto recycling trauma for shock value without earning it. Asa's version is even more half-baked and doesn't land b/c she's a friendless non-character and her """arc's""" so inert. She's supposed to be Denji's foil (the "the bitchy good girl vs. the "selfish asshole"), but her guilt reveal just fizzles away with a bit of scrutiny, mom did the deed, Asa's role is vague bystander syndrome, and it doesn't propel her character forward at all.

TL;DR Fujimoto tries to mirror them (*both involved in their dad's death*), but:
-Denji = active (self-defense).
-Asa = passive (no agency bystander).
Forcing symmetry where none exists b/c he ultimately realized how badly written their relationship is. This is not an exaggeration Asa and Denji's relationship, has to be one of the most badly written romances in manga. It's like teenage girls Wattpad fanfic. I've read Isekai slop with better romance.
