4.) learn to use Shift.
-you can add more units/buildings to your selection while holding shift (and by default shift+control group adds the selected units to that group (you might need to tick a box for this in the options)
-you can que commands with units: most useful things are: after you assign a villager to build something, shift-click them back to the resource, so they will automatically go back, but there are lots of useful stuff to do with military units too.
-you can que 5 units at once if you hold down shift, really useful late game when you will be spamming a lot of trash.
5.) some general tips for AoE2 in specific:
-holding Alt and right clicking on a building garrisons units into that building (very useful when your villagers are attacked near the town center. Afterwards just hit the "go back to work" hotkey on the town center)
-Alt+dragging only selects villagers, Ctrl+dragging only selects military units
-units and buildings deal 25% more and recieve 25% less damage on highground vs lowground
-monks counter knights (and elephants). Also monk conversion time isn't lost when switching targets, it's only lost when the monk stops conversion. This means you can make all eg. 4 of your monks start converting 1 kngight quickly and then you have a few seconds to assign each monk to a different knight
-in a regular multiplayer/skirmish map your first 15 villagers will likely follow a similar build order most of the time. Look up Spirit of the Law's "first 15 villagers" vid on youtube
