All of the higher income groups are Asians. Most of them settled in the West Coast and in large cities, both of which have relatively higher costs of living and associated higher income levels.
There aren't a lot of Japanese or Malaysians living in low cost of living, lower income flyover areas.
Most of these groups came to the U.S. in large numbers in the 20th and 21st century, when immigration standards were more restrictive. Therefore you had to be higher skilled and more motivated to make it here. You had to be among the best of your kind to make it to America.
I wouldn't say that these factors explain all of the difference. These groups probably also have higher mean intelligence than Whites. But I would be interested to see the average income of each group of these Americans compared with their ethnic homelands. I think the difference would be even more stark than comparing these groups to White Americans, which suggests that their success is due in large part to the opportunities and efficiencies possible while living in predominantly White societies.
