I think you're wrong and a focus on "media criticism" above all else is the lamest, nerdiest thing. The "parodies" overwhelmingly boil down to is tributes to what the staff like, and largely the show focuses on fun situations, cartoony gags and charming character dynamics. Even the "who's the REAL monster here..." ending in the slasher episode felt like a joke.
"Independence Dick" wasn't an Independence Day parody, it was a very character-driven episode. I think approaching Panty & Stocking from an autopilot academic "media analysis" perspective is a fundamental misunderstanding.
