Cool, thanks for the info and yeah I do agree that locals should get more recognition.
I mean I don't know if the racecourse in Morioka is considered local or famous by the public but for me it felt like it was between the two (well mostly local desu).
I do hope that Don Franky gets in the game just to show a bit of love towards Iwate, sure he only won a G3 but still it'd be fun to see him.
Would've been funny if he had won more, Iwate's own little Oguri. (local->jra horse)

About the pic, it's in my home country of Luxembourg. It's a type work horse breed that is mostly located in the benelux region. Big but very friendly. And short in patience when it comes to carrots, that guy gently kicks the fence like a restaurant bell just to call for second portions.
Side tangent: I wish I was a jockey. Before coming to Japan I was 54 kg and now after 5 months I'm at 48kg. I've got the perfect body for it
