In my country the biggest right-wing party was born out of two smaller right-wing parties.
The first party was an ultra religious party: they wanted to ban everything they didn't like: they wanted to make divorce illegal, they wanted to make homosexuality illegal, they wanted to make abortion illegal, all that stuff.
The other party was a neoliberal party that pretty much defended that there shouldn't be any regulations: companies should be allowed to pay whatever they want, food safety regulations should be abolished, they literally even defended that the traffic codes must be removed too.
Even today, several decades later, you can tell which branch each member belongs to. It's pretty easy to tell because one of the branches defends that the government should micromanage every little detail of everyone's lives, and the other branch wants a country without laws. Yet they always vote together, just to oppose everything the left does, no matter what it is.

Also this. Obviously people who agree on an actual ideology will have less "diversity of thought" than people who merely want to vote against it.
