Any of the people play action games for big gamer creds should be playing fighting games instead.

By that I don't mean that fighting games are the better genre, but it's just a fact that they require more median skill, simply for the fact that they're a never ending ladder of worse and better players. Unless you're playing some Netherrealm shit being a fighting game player that can hold his ground is much more respectable than being an action game superplayer.

The thing that makes action games great, and in that aspect better than fighting games, is precisely that they live and die by their being able to train the player and doing it in a way that feels fulfilling. Playing as Dante or Ryu fucking ROCKS. And if the game is good it will rock all the way down, even when you are getting your ass handed to you. That's why this is genre where bosses are regarded so highly, because you like fighting them and even losing to them. Meanwhile everyone hates bad matchups in a fighting game.

As someone who's spent thousands of hours playing these types of games, yes, they can get decently hard, but they are more about solving puzzles than strategy and outplaying. You do have gamer cred for being good at them, but only in the sense you're really passionate about this one thing; if you want to be better than others don't be a pussy and play a competitive game.
